| Ibaraki prefecture is home toKasumigaura-Kitaura, the second largest lake in Japan and Hinuma, blackish water, and others. In addition, there are about 210 rivers including Kuji River, Naka River, and Tone River. Under the rich natural environment, Ibaraki prefecture produces one of the richest fisheries in Japan. And recreational fishing in Ibaraki prefecture is popular due to its rich fish habitat. The freshwater branch office conducts various surveys and research on resource management measures, fish disease, development of methods for aquaculture and stock enhancement, conservation measures for aquatic habitats, feeding damage to indigenous fish used in fisheries by non-native species. These studies will contribute to the sustainable development of the inland fisheries industry. |
